People I met on the way
I wanted to put it as a 6 , however , in reality , the people I still have contact after the trip , I would call a 3 …
Saco – It was really a coincidence that twice I asked this person for the direction in the same day , I believe if people are meant to meet , they would just meet … I think that’s a pretty nice dutch guy , good looking of course , I only make friends with good looking people , that’s the rule J I had a great time even after the trip to berlin, it was amazing that at that moment , I felt so right , what could you say , sometimes , I’m just a moody feeling follower …
Miki – Meeting Miki was also a coincidence, we stayed in the same hotel and the atmosphere was just so right to start the conversation from Hijema mashita ( nice to meet you in japanese ) , my very weird looking always make people think I’m a japanese . We hang out together the day after , and I told her about my great german colleague who’s a fans of japanese girls and my new friend Saco , girls are easily to get along sometimes , not to mention that we both are just fantastic J I spent an entire day trip with Miki , 3 museums and one typical german lunch , the only thing missing was we wanted to go to the same concert , but tickets sold out , saying goodbye at night , I know we’ll meet again online .
Roald – was not quite sure how to write his name. It was just amazing to meet someone like him in the train back to Holland , I would say. I saw him passing by , this guy looks too good , at one moment ,I even felt too shy to look at him … As I was too tired on the way back , enjoying my The Corrs , and never think he would just take the seat next to me and started the first question … The surprising point is he said ‘ I would recommand you a book ‘ the kite runner ‘ , damm ,I was just holding this book in my bag and recommanding it to a lot of others , I showed him the book , we laughed out … he said he visits paris sometimes for the weekends, I recommanded Shakespear’ bookstore , told him about the great man George ; he said he’s living no where for the time being , I felt this guy is rather interesting , not only because he looks so good . I told him about the Kite runner movie is under shooting in xinjiang China instead of Kabul , Afghanistan, he told me the same writer has just came out with his 2nd book about Afghans . There was one moment , I got stuck , being slient , nothing to say , and I know when I have nothing more to say , I have something in mind. He said he’s going to Zurich , I pretended not to know where Zurich is , just to let him explain , sounds rather silly , and what can I say , sometimes , the crush just happened … I was very much feeling bad that I can’t see him anymore , and really didn’t wanna get off in Amersfoort, when getting off the train , I told myself ‘ if we’re meant to meet again , we’ll just meet again in life , we never know … ‘

Berliner Dom

It’s a complex story to describe this Dom, first as a Catholic church, then turned into a Protestant one in the early 20th century , was burned and heavily damaged during the war, today , it stands there as a more tourist point . Miki told me it’s her first time of visiting an European church , then I of course have the responsibilities to explain her the great story of the ‘ war’ between Catholic and Protestant, and telling her she needs to visit Notre-Dame de Paris , the Duono in Milano, the Chartre which dated back to thousands of years ago , the oldest church in Europe… As an fans of Architecture , I of course did a research of different churches in Europe , the best masterpiece to visit, from Gothic , Baroque, Classic , Neoclassic, Rococo …till Art Nouveaux , I moved from Asia to Europe , to see the art only J From the outside of Berliner Dom , you could still clearly see the burned trace left from the war , the status are having some black spots on , the German government apparently has tried hard to clean it , but the history , sometimes , is just rooted , what could you do to draw a piece of history out ?

Altes National museum
At one moment, I standed in front of Nefertiti portray wondering what makes her such a lengend in Egyptian art? Her beauty?( the first phase coming out of the audio is ‘ Nefertiti is probably not the most beautiful woman in Berlin ’); Her taking over the right as pharaoh? Her being the wife of Great Royal? … I tried to understand her eye contact even though there’s only one left in the portray, tried to understand her slight smile, tried to understand what she’s thinking or trying to send as messages to us, centuries later some very regular people admiring her in the un-understandable way… no answer coming out, I told Miki , I’m not good enough in art to understand this masterpiece J We went roughly through the Egyptians and looking into the beaux-arts, I very much ‘hate’ portrays and that’s probably the reason I didn’t really like to stay in this 2nd floor even though at 20h00 I did went back to Altes museum just for Nefertiti , to ‘appreciate’ her once more,21h00 , we headed to National Gallery , where they mentioned Renoir and Monet, I expected to wash my busy mind from the great work of Monet , which turned out to be extremely disappointing anyway. I have to admit I don’t like very much Flemish paintings, I felt German painters are too heavy , the color implemented in oil paintings are dark , silent , and a lot of times , they’re just sad and crucial. When entered the show room of Monet , Manet and Renoir , I wanted to leave right away, believe me , even I’m not such an arty person , the works they presented right in there can’t tell Monet, you just don’t feel impressived at all, just felt why they present something which ruins a lot of nice imagniation of Monet as one of my fave artists in the entire century ? I’ve been visiting tons of exhibitions of Monet in Paris , the sunrise , the barcelona , any of them you could just call it a work , an art , and there in Altes, I called them they finished their tasks to present some Monet’s and just to attract some impressionism fans come in, in Berlin , that night , I missed paris , musee d’orsay , I need to be there asap …
Bode museum was closed , I missed Byzantine ; The art nouveaux museum was closed at 18h, I missed it; The berlin history museum was missed, I would definitely go back to Berlin one day , it’s just worth another trip …

Check-point Charlie
Before entering check-point, I standed at this border of Esat Berlin and West Berlin for an half hour, the Starbucks coffee at the coner , nice german guy in the early morning of germany, he told me the story of berlin wall, I ran into the museum at the first moment when it opened, starting my east-west berlin trip… Escape is the mother of invention, I can’t help myself to pic this slogan, escaping from your own country to your own again !!! What an ironic period,The American in, the british in, the French in; The soviet Russian took over half of the city, the Berliners out , mentally. Escaping could be a good venture for decades for Berliners,in car, in suitcase!!! On boards … whatelse was on that we don’t know yet? What would you think when seeing the 60s something grandma climb down the windows from east berlin , staring at the wall guards, beseeching his favor to let go ?

DDR museum
Eastern German life in my thoughts was very much similar to Polish life,I remember in 2005,my attention was driven by a polish guy in school for a couple of months, different mind-set thing, different culture thing attracted me to get to know this person more, nothing really happened btw him and me but the nice conversation,I was listening , smiling and nodding, another nice person passing by in life. DDR is an apartment style museum,as a visitor , we’re allowed to open the drawers and see some streche of the eastern paper work, legal documents,a small documentary movie was on in the museum, house providing in eastern part, what china was experiencing in the early 1990s,maybe all the countries have had the same trace to grow, maybe it’s just a question of when it’s on, maybe all the world history is just repeating and repeating ???

Pergamon Museum
(
pics from the official site of pergamon , since I didn't want to take any pics in such an amazing museum :) ) I went there with Miki,a nice Japanese girl I’ve met on the way, at 9h30 we passed by Beliner Dom, finding a nice coffee nearby Pergamon,a boutique aside presents nice art nouveau designate that moment , Miki and I behaved, apprx, as some girls at age 12, WOWing right in front of closed shop window, clapping … Back to the museum, Pergamon is famous for its Ishtar gate from Babylon, for its incredibly Greek sculptures( it’s strange that I do not like portrait, but very much into sculptures).Never take any pic in an arty museum is my rule, they’re too beautiful to be taken in pics,I was always feeling that taking the pic of a nice sculpture is taking their soul out, sounds very silly, I do know, but they’re just too precious to be in my pics… Greek columns was one of the major topic in pergamon,I felt like flying to Turkey right away in the Great Alter, the temple , the traces , the history behind , the legends, my bad habit is always trying to make a story from the mosaic,at one moment , I tried to connect all the lengends by my own , ignoring what the audio was telling, I became the director of their lives and a new story on,I felt satisfied living in it, it’s so obvious in Pergamon, in front of one Roman sculpture,I had an imagination of my life with this’person’, Miki had a pic of ‘ him’ and yes I would need to ask her to send me thoughJ
I think I was rather lucky that when we were in pergamon, there’s an Islamic exhibition on, from Iran-Iraq-Afghanistan-Turkey, in addition a few collection from Northern Africa, the handmade texile is of course a topic forever in Islamic culture, the women portrait is the first time I’ve seen be put on main menu,I tried very hard to find the strech of Silk Road, can’t get any,was pretty much disappointing and on the top of that , figuring out what the hell the Indian art is presenting a portion of this Islamic tour ???

Jewish museum

I somehow felt in my last life , I should be a Jew, I’m sorry if any Jewish reader here found it un-respectful for this great nation, I’m just trying to describe how much I’m into this culture. I was always wondering this nation who’s experienced holocaust, who’s been FORCED to move around the world for surviving, who’s lost more than 6mln population in the WWII, who’s climbed up from the point they fell and becoming one of the best business like people nowadays , creating the world fortune for the entire world, how important as a supportive role the Judaism plays in all of this? ---- The star of David : while reading the description of this jew signle in germany,my mind was driven back to the movie The pianist’ life of polish jews during the war’, I remember I saw the movie twice, was in tense – back to the museum,I’m probably not arty enough to understand why Daniel Libeskind designed the blank room which lead the visitors to ‘fallen leaves’ , I actually prefer calling it ‘ screaming masks ‘ on my own, while visitors try to walk on them,I felt bad, the museum guide told me you could walk on them if you want, ‘ No way, I won’t do that,it’s too scary for me, being so brutal’ , I stood there for a quarter, observed the ‘leaves’, hearing the screaming from people walking on, two pics taken , I decided to call this jews trip off …
